Call for reformation of Dublin II

ICMC Office:

27 June 2006 - In a letter to Mr Franco Frattini, Vice President of the European Commission, ECRE appeals to the Commission to review their report on the application of the Dublin II Regulation made in March 2006, and take those findings into account during the Commission's evalution of the Regulation.   Among its main findings, the ECRE report states that "along with placing individuals at risk of refoulement, [the Regulation] is unfair, inefficient, resource-intensive and in conflict with the aim of burden-sharing as envisaged in the Amsterdam Treaty."  The letter is also signed by the representatives of 73 member agencies, demonstrating the urgency and importance felt by members of the need to change the Dublin system.
