ICMC releases new publication "Dignity Across Borders"GENEVA, 30 October 2008 (ICMC)—ICMC releases a new publication, based on a consultation on migration with ICMC Members throughout Asia, which was held in Manila in August 2008 and jointly organised by ICMC and the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines. In conjuntion with the Philippines Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrant and Itinerant People (ECMI), ICMC began building the first of several new regional platform processes, bringing together leaders of programmes serving migrants in 20 Asian countries—including 18 bishops and archbishops—for a consultation on migration issues and priorities in Asia in August 2008. Held in Manila, Philippines, the consultation focussed on six major issues relating to migration in and from the region: family unity, labour migration, forced migrants, human trafficking, migration and development and policy-building. The gaps and recommendations identified by ICMC Members over the course of these discussions were compiled in this new publication, entitled Dignity across borders<. The publication further served to contribute to the debate at the Global Forum on Migration and Development<, which united more than 160 governments and some 200 Civil Society representatives in Manila at the end of October. |
